In 1990, “The Phantom of the Opera” mania was high. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical had been running in both London and New York for a few years and was touring all over the place. However, at the same time, there was another musical version of the Gaston Leroux’s novel by noted playwright Arthur Kopit and infinitely-more-talented-than-Sir-Andrew composer/lyricist Maury Yeston.
